Understanding Public and Private Domains in VeilNet #
VeilNet enables secure, post-quantum communication over a decentralized overlay network. One of its most powerful features is the flexible domain system — separating Public Domains and Private Domains to suit both individual users and organizations.
🔓 Public Domains #
Public Domains are globally accessible overlays within the VeilNet fabric. They are designed for maximum decentralization and community contribution.
Key Features: #
Open Access: Any VeilNet user in the Community Tier or higher can connect.
Hosted via Public Portals: Backed by user-contributed or VeilNet-managed public portals.
Earn MP Credits: Running a public portal for a domain helps others connect and earns you Measurement of Participation (MP) credits.
Ideal For:
Personal devices (e.g., laptops, phones)
Home lab sharing
Community services
Early adopters testing the VeilNet network
Important Notes: #
Portals and Rifts connected to Public Domains must be in the same region (e.g., UK, SG, US) to ensure optimal routing.
VeilNet does not collect geolocation data. Regional detection is done via Cloudflare headers at ISP (Internet Service Provider) level.
🔒 Private Domains #
Private Domains in VeilNet are isolated overlay networks built for maximum privacy, control, and security. Each domain forms a fully independent network — portals and rifts within a Private Domain can communicate only with others in the same domain, and are completely invisible to the rest of VeilNet.
Key Features: #
Absolute Isolation: Portals and Rifts in a Private Domain cannot see or interact with entities outside the domain — even other Portals.
Private Infrastructure: Private domain may pair with Private Veils and custom DNS or routing logic tailored to enterprise needs (please contact support for details).
Guaranteed Privacy: Portal can only serve traffic within its own domain — it cannot observe or interfere with traffic from other domains.
Secure Backhaul: Seamlessly link infrastructure across regions without exposing any endpoint to the public internet.
Ideal For: #
Startups needing fully private, zero-trust remote access
Businesses building isolated internal overlays for departments or services
Government, defense, or critical infrastructure operators requiring absolute invisiblity
Service Tier Requirement: #
Private Domains are available starting from the Team service tier and above. This ensures organizations have access to the necessary configuration, support, and infrastructure controls to manage secure, isolated networks effectively.
